Sunday Oct 20, 2019
Sunday Oct 20, 2019
We're joined by memelord and queer Indigenous activist Kira Djinalie. They run Beautiful, Talented & Deadly, and do queer + decolonial activism around polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Kira tells us about their memes, activism, and about a Spooky Halloween Trivia they're hosting (the name of which we can't type or we'll get in trouble with iTunes...)

hey, thanks for the feedback. we offered Kira a fee for their time. we think it’s important to compensate guests, especially First Nations people. one of the nice things about having a patreon is that we can now afford to do that. sorry to hear that you found Kira’s perspective was under-utilised. we’re new to interviewing, and still learning (so we do genuinely appreciate criticism). we’ll chat a bit more on the next episode about the feedback we've gotten about this ep if you’re interested to hear us expand.

Kira was a good guest. I hope you paid them at least a little donation. Did they get the interview questions in advance? You didn't seem to really know who you're talking to, and the unfocused questioning made it feel shallow because Kira would raise an interesting point (of their own volition and not really because of the questioning) and then the conversation moved on. If you communicated more in advance or focused the interview questions more, maybe you could've gone deeper into worthwhile topics and the guest's point of view/experiences. Kira's perspective felt under-utilised. It was hard sitting through the chit chat about memes at the start. In response to the positive review you said you don't do that much research. People engaging with Australian politics deserve high quality content and this podcast seems to prioritise quantity over quality. If you're both white men accepting donations for a low-effort podcast that you aren't bringing presentation or interviewing skills to, I hope you're compensating Indigenous Australian guests for their time.
